Kristy Kropat

I was born and raised in California and I’m passionate about good design. I founded my interior design firm in San Diego in 2008 and opened my San Francisco office in 2014 and my office in Berlin, Germany in 2017. My designs have received many design awards and been published in numerous magazines.

Growing up my favorite classes were math and art. I always had an appreciation for good design and beautiful spaces. I realized early on that no matter how gorgeous a space looks, if it’s not usable then it soon looses its appeal.  My passion began as a teenager, when I redesigned my bedroom and I tackled all the functional issues and the aesthetics to create my dream space. 

My interest in technology and human usability led me to my first degree, a bachelor of science in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Davis. I worked as an embedded software engineer for 10 years and enjoyed finding design solutions that created a natural human interface experience. Following my interest for interior design, I went back to university and earned a bachelor of arts in Interior Design from the Design Institute of San Diego. In 2008, I started my interior design firm in San Diego, California, later moving to San Francisco and then Berlin, Germany where I live now. My residential and commercial interior design projects focus on the user, optimal functionality and an aesthetic that connects to my client and the surroundings.

I’m now in the next step of my design journey with a specialization in lighting design. I’m adding to my interior design and engineering background with a Masters of Art in Lighting Design and Design Management.
